"Jilin University Journal Social Sciences Edition" which started publication in 1955 is a synthetical periodical on academic theory. It is sponsored by Jilin University and responsible for the Ministry of Education. The aims of the journal are to carry forward the advanced culture both national and international, to study forward theories of the humanities and social sciences and to explore the significant problems about contemporary social practices and national developments. Furthermore, adhering to proper editing orientation, carrying out the principle of "Double Hundred" and initiating the spirit innovation in academic study are also the purposes of the journal. For many years, the journal has been enjoying great reputation both at home and abroad because of her academic and theoretical characteristics. (1) Articles in the journal are reprinted and duplicated by "XinHua Digest", "China University Academic Abstracts" and Renmin University of China "Reprography of Newspaper & Periodical Information" more than 60% every year. (2) The journal is defined as a core periodical by library of Beijing University and the Institute of China Social Sciences. (3) The journal was chosen as "Double Benefit Periodical" of China in 2001. (4) The journal has gained great achievements during the past years: a nomination as an excellent academic theoretical of social sciences in the First National Rewarding for Social Sciences Periodical in 1995; continuously chosen as "the Best Double-Ten Periodicals of Social Sciences" by the Committee of Humanities Social Sciences in 1999 and in 2001; continuously elected as the Best Top-Ten Social Sciences Periodical of Jilin province and excellent social sciences periodical of Northeast of China.
History
Jilin University Journal Social Sciences Edition started its publication in 1955, named Northeast People's University Journal Humanities Sciences Edition; in 1958 Northeast People's University was changed into Jilin University, as a result, the journal's name became Jilin University Journal Humanities Edition; from 1966 to 1972, the journal was stopped publication because of the Culture Revolution, and then resumed publication in 10,1973, named Jilin University Journal (philosophy and social sciences edition );in 1975 the journal was changed into Theory Studying ,in fact at that time the journal was the theoretical journal of Jilin Provincial Party Committee; in 1978 the journal took the present name Jilin University Journal Social Sciences Edition, bimonthly periodical, publishing both at home and abroad; till now 177 issues have been published from the very beginning.

As a synthetic theoretical periodical of humanities and social sciences Jilin University Journal Social Sciences Edition pays its main attention to publishing the most forward achievements which gains by experts of Jilin University and internal or external including philosophy, political science, economics, history, literature, sociology , linguistics, the science of law, and the most newly studies on Japan, Korea, America. Meanwhile, the journal also pays attentions to the applied sciences, and actively reflects researching achievements of significant issues during the process of studying our national socialist modernization construction.
